Simply Natural Creamery is one of the best places to visit with your family in Greene County. They specialize in home made ice cream and other dairy products. Come on the weekend and get a tour of the farm.

Getting There

First thing we noticed was this place was out in the middle of no where. After living in Eatern NC, this stops seeming so odd after a while. The dairy farm that supports the creamery came first and is still active. By all accounts, the drive was worth it.

When you first arrive, you will pass by the large playground on the right and pull up to the front of the creamery. One big benefit of the location it an excess of parking. During the summer months, this place can still pack out the parking lot, as large as it is. The first time we visited, I made the unfortunate mistake of parking in front of the large vent fan on just to the left of the front porch. This vent must have been pulling air from the barn because we were BLASTED with the smell of manure when we stepped out. Luckily, we took two steps away from the car and it quickly faded

THE Greene County Ice Cream

So you probably came here for one main reason. The ice cream. If you live around the Greene County area, you may have seen their cartons in your local grocery stores. This is by all means a staple of the area if not a right of passage. All the same, the ice cream is really good. Like you would expect, it is made fresh and they have quite the variety of flavors. I am a sucker for good old chocolate so that is what I went for. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Madilyn agreed.

Good thing to note, they do have a handful of non-dairy options. If you require lactose-free options, they have them. That being said, they will claim you may be able to eat their ice cream even if you are lactose intolerant. I am by no means a food scientist but they claim something about Jersey cows makes their milk fundamentally different. Try at you own risk. If this applies to you and you try this out, let me know how it goes. If you really like what you try, they have cartons available for you to buy also.

The Experience

We all know you can eat ice cream any where. And hey, there is a Greenville location of Simply Natural. So why would you come all the way out here? A lot of reasons. For starters, the cows. Not just any cows, baby cows. Yes, they keep a baby cow in a protected comfortable shelter adjacent to the parking lot. See Madilyn’s approval below

What? you want more? Fine. They have a great out door seating area of which much is shaded. Enjoy rocking on the front porch with you ice cream on a hot day You can also sign up for the regular tours of the farm. We keep trying to go on these tours but have been unlucky so far. If you come during the week, you can watch the works actually make and package the ice cream, milk and butter. Oh and the playground!

THE PLAYGROUND!

Hype the kiddo’s up on sugar and dairy and then turn them loose on the fenced off play ground. Not the most elaborate playground around but definitely a solid set up. Madilyn usually tires her self on this before we head home and makes the trip home much quieter. The combination of sugar and an outlet for energy is probably why this ranks so high on our list.

Events

These people have build a whole out door shelter with bathroom etc. just for parties. For a 5 year old birthday, this seems like a great option. Their listing for parties offers to provide everything you need for 20 kids. It did leave me wondering if it is the same price of $350 for adults.

Overall

Simply Natural is a great family outing or place to relax with friends over some ice cream. The experience is all about simple pleasures done well. This is our go-to when we have family or friends in town because it gives a great taste of Eastern NC. Hands down the best Greene County ice cream we have had so far.

How was your experience at Simply Natural? Did you go on tour? What is your top flavors of ice cream here?
