1. Chalk Tables and Elvis

We recently discovered the Scullery Kitchen in Greenville’s Uptown District. The Scullery is not the average greasy spoon. This place has pizazz and a lot of it. This trendy community kitchen really makes and effort to be be different, fun and just an all around great experience. For starters, there is a book case full of kids books right at where you place your order. When Madilyn realized these were for her to borrow, she was ecstatic.

Food at the Scullery is mainly breakfast and lunch. They have a few funny names like “Hungry Pirate Breakfast” and “Big Dog Double Decker” but most of the menu is straight forward. I do appreciate the simplicity of their menu. There is very little guess work and the fact that the menu is small means that the kitchen staff can focus on improving on awesome rather than trying to learn something complex.

2. Greenville’s Favorite Park Or Disc Gold Haven

Depending on the day and your preference check out Town Common Park of West Meadowbrook park. Both offer some of the best that the local parks have to offer and are utterly relaxing.

Town Common

Town Common has a great boat launch into the Tar river. It is also fairly common to see a box truck down by the water with some paddle boats for rent. One cool part about this park is the gentle slope the ground has towards the water. The designers took advantage of this and built a covered stage near the water which creates a natural amphitheater. There are some festivals and concerts that use this stage and it makes for a really cool set up. During warm months, keep a look out for local events going on. We stumbled onto a heritage festival one day and there were food trucks lining the street.

The “big kid” part of the playground is very unique in many ways. They have your traditional mix of slides and climbing things but they also have lots of different ropes secured to climb on. These range from bridges to tunnels and more. There is also a slide made out of rollers. The roller slide can take you by surprise. It is at a gentle decline but because it has rollers, you go much faster than you may think.

West Meadowbrook

What stood out to me the most was the very new and unused playground. The lack of use is probably due to the park is location. It’s not like Town Common but there are plenty of things to do and unique portions of this playground. One of Madilyn’s favorite things is swings (which are strangely lacking from Town Common) but there are plenty here. I probably spent a solid 15 minutes pushing Madilyn in the swings here. We had the place to ourselves so we could have stayed there for hours if I let her.

I’ll be the first to admit I do not know that much about disc golf but I can appreciate a well-maintained course when I see it. If you’re looking for a disc golf course in Eastern North Carolina definitely give this a lookIf you look up this park on the Greenville parks website it makes a passing mention of disc golf as an amenity. I took this to me that there was one or two holes somewhere throughout the park. When I got there I realized this is an 18 hole, disc golf association official, disc golf course.

3. Burrito’s For Two

Anita’s Mexican Restaurant is everything you could want in local burrito shop. Off the beaten path, great food, big portions, and great sauces. Kaitlyn and I make a point to stop in every chance we get. Great! you got here just in time for dinner. Wait, why is it locked up? Well the physical shop is only open for lunch. They serve as a staging kitchen for their food truck/trailer that goes all over and they use the same staff for the restaurant as they do for the food truck/trailer.

I highly recommend the Burritos. These bad boys are BIG. Kaitlyn and I usually will order one and split it between us for lunch. I recommend getting your food to-go even if you plan to eat there. Especially if you get a whole burrito for yourself. Now when asked about sauces, I recommend getting all of them if it is your first time. They offer 3 main sauces all made in house.

4. The Best Ice Cream Greene Pitt County Has to Offer

Okay, I am cheat with this one a little. Technically this is not in Greenville or even Pitt County but I could not bring myself to omit Simply Natural Creamery from this list.

If you live around the Greene County area, you may have seen their cartons in your local grocery stores. This is by all means a staple of the area if not a right of passage. All the same, the ice cream is really good. Like you would expect, it is made fresh and they have quite the variety of flavors. I am a sucker for good old chocolate so that is what I went for. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Madilyn agreed.

Good thing to note, they do have a handful of non-dairy options. If you require lactose-free options, they have them. That being said, they will claim you may be able to eat their ice cream even if you are lactose intolerant. They have a great out door seating area of which much is shaded. Enjoy rocking on the front porch with you ice cream on a hot day You can also sign up for the regular tours of the farm.

5. 14 Courses At A Great Price

Cucina LaMantia boasts of a 14 course dinner only served twice a week with second-to-none service. For only 45$ a person, the family style service is great for celebrations and date nights alike. Before you come, you MUST have a reservation. They are only open on Friday and Saturday for a single service each night. Doors open at 5:45pm but we advise getting there a little early and waiting in your car if needed. This is also a BYOB/BYOW situation. No un-corking fees at all.

Since the menu is custom made and you have no control of what you get, there is little point to describing the menu. However, the entire menu is Sicilian based and some popular items do tend to re-appear for good reason. Because the menu is effectively blind, it really promotes trying dishes you may have not picked on your own.

6. Wild Card

Lastly, I MUST mention ECU sports. If you so happen to be in town during a football game, strongly consider going. The better half of the town revolves around East Carolina University in one way or another. Needless to say the massive sports complex gathers all of the purple and gold fanatics to root for the home team.

Through all this you might just get lucky and be picked up in a random MrBeast video encounter. Greenville is his home town after all.
