West Meadowbrook Park is the Greenville disc golf haven and a nice little park to boot. With no major trails to speak of, this park is all about the other amenities. Bring your family and a little imagination to relax and make memories.

West of Where?

West Meadowbrook Park is hidden in north Greenville. Not too far from River Park North or Town Common, you will find this recreation park hidden behind some residential areas. There are two separate parking areas for the park. Only one of them will show up on Google maps right now. The east parking area accessible from Melody Ln is best for accessing the disc golf course and the playground. The neighborhoods around the park are a little rough but do not let that scare you off.

18 Holes of Disc Golf

If you look up this park on the Greenville parks website it makes a passing mention of disc golf as an amenity. I took this to me that there was one or two holes somewhere throughout the park. When I got there I realized this is an 18 hole, disc golf association official, disc golf course. The course is well maintained and the equipment looks like it is cleaned / replaced regularly. The holes are very well marked and indicated.

Though the Greenville Parks website does not seem to show any of this. I was able to find a course map only after doing some extensive digging after visiting the park. I’ll be the first to admit I do not know that much about disc golf but I can appreciate a well-maintained course when I see it. If you’re looking for a disc golf course in Eastern North Carolina definitely give this a look. Here is a link to the Professional Disc Golf Association’s page on the course.

We saw quite a few people for late afternoon coming to the park to play this course. I tried not to stare are all the very nice caddy equipment some people were using. The course starts from the shelter area which is also most accessible from the east parking lot. Each hole has a clearly marked sign that details the hole. For a recreational course, this looks like a very nice luxury.

Playground

Madilyn and I went to West Meadowbrook park on the recommendation of one of my friends. What stood out to me the most was the very new and unused playground. The lack of use is probably due to the park is location. It’s not like Town Common but there are plenty of things to do and unique portions of this playground. There are several different climbing areas that are appropriate for a variety of ages and lots of slides.

One of Madilyn’s favorite things is swings (which are strangely lacking from Town Common) but there are plenty here. I probably spent a solid 15 minutes pushing Madilyn in the swings here. We had the place to ourselves so we could have stayed there for hours if I let her.

Park it Here

Something else that’s very valuable is the large undesignated grassy green flat space. Growing up these types of spaces I used for all sorts of things from soccer practice to tag with friends to launching model rockets and more. If you need an open space for your kids to play or to do something fun with your family this is a nice area as well. There were a few kids playing pickup football out there when we visited. A lot of park designers seem to think they have to cram amenities into every inch of flat grassy space they have but I disagree. Having open undesignated areas can allow for a lot of creative opportunities for local communities and residents.

There are no real trails or walking paths to speak of at this park. That being said I do not think it would be difficult to put one in around the disc golf course if the town of Greenville decided to. You can easily walk wherever you want to around this area just be mindful of anybody playing through the very nice 18 hole disc golf course. There’s also a softball and baseball field here as well with bathrooms.

Another Stroll in the West Meadowbrook Park

Madilyn and I took a stroll through the park all the same. This park reminded me a lot of some the simple parks I grew up with. There does not need to be a lot of things at the park to make is fun. It has a lot more to do with what you do with the space rather than what is already there.

Acorns West Meadowbrook Park

Overall

Great little park that is not trafficked due to its proximity to the rougher neighborhood. If you like disc golf and are in the Greenville area this is definitely something to check out. If River Park North or Town Common are it ever too crowded for you this would be the next place I would go.
