Strawberries on 903 offers indeed Strawberries and….an alpaca? You can pick your own berries, get fresh produce and enjoy a neat mini zoo unlike anything in the area. Pair this with a trip to Simply Natural Creamery for the ultimate day at the farm for your kids.

It Is Actually Off of 903

Strawberries on 903 is indeed on NC 903. Not far from Greenville, Strawberries on 903 is nestled in rural eastern North Carolina. We found it not too hard to see from the road. There is also not much else on the road out there.

Parking is easy to come by. once you turn into the area, the parking is a free for all. Drive slowely and keep your eyes peeled. Because the spots are haphazardly marked, you may not see someone walk into the street. The parking is all dirt/gravel so it can get a little dusty/muddy.

Strawberries on 903 is a little strange in that it is both out of the way but also close to town. You do not have to drive far from the NC 11 bypass to get there but once you are there you feel like it is 20 miles to the nearest store.

Strawberry Fields Forever

We were looking for a great place to take Madilyn to pick strawberries. The name, Strawberries on 903, sounded like it was a little too obvious. Nonetheless, it had some great reviews and looked to be fairly popular on several different groups in the area so we decided to give it a try.

We strolled over to the produce stand and grabbed a few baskets to fill up. It ended up being more of an educational experience than anything else. Madilyn loved trying to grab the berries but was also trying to pull up the plants. We have a fledgling produce garden in our backyard so this was a great way to teach her how to be gentle and only pick the berries.

The main farm area is not far from the Simply Natural Creamery and could make a great 2nd stop to a day in the country. The layout is centered around the loose parking area. You might just drive past the petting zoo area before you realize what it is. The produce stand looks like a cabin with a gracious overhang. This is where you will find the strawberry baskets if you come during the peak season. There are also plenty of other fresh greens and farmer’s market items for sale. We ended up grabbing some green beans when we came too for dinner. The fields are just to the rear of the produce area.

Wait is That a Peacock

Considering there is no formal Zoo in Greenville, this might just be the next best thing. Like I mentioned you likely will not see the animals when you first pull in. The zoo area is a mishmash of out buildings, fences and homemade cages. Do be careful since some of these enclosures are on the primitive side. All the animals look as happy as they can be and well treated.

There are plenty of pot belly pigs, peacocks, alpacas and other fun creatures to check out. There was no requirement to purchase anything to enjoy this mini zoo. Madilyn was less interested in these fluffy friends since she had a basket of berries. The staff will mill about on occasion to take care of the guys but for the most part, they just hang around for you to enjoy and pet. They were all very friendly and was the biggest surprise of the day for ys.

If you are hungry for some local food consider some of the great local options like Skylight Inn for amazing Eastern NC BBQ or Anita’s Mexican Restaurant.

Overall

What really set Strawberries on 903 apart is its convenient location to Greenville and the mini zoo. The Strawberries were excellent and the additional produce on sale is fairly standard for most pick-it-yourself set ups. A great way to spend part of a weekend with your family making memories or to get some insanely fresh produce.
