Anita’s is everything you could want in local burrito shop. Off the beaten path, great food, big portions, and great sauces. Kaitlyn and I make a point to stop in every chance we get.
Where Do I Turn?
First things first. Every great local restaurant is a little hard to find. Anita’s does not disappoint here. The physical shop is in an old fast food shop that has been heavily retrofitted after years of neglect. You might think it is still out of commission since they only replaced the smaller of the two signs on the front of the property. Even after going to this place multiple times, I still miss the turn. Check the location at the bottom of the page
Great! you got here just in time for dinner. Wait, why is it locked up? Well the physical shop is only open for lunch. They serve as a staging kitchen for their food truck/trailer that goes all over and they use the same staff for the restaurant as they do for the food truck/trailer.
GIVE ME MY ANITA’S!
Geeze! Okay. So you made it. You might see the line go out the door. Do not be intimidated by this. Because of how the interior is laid out, if more than a few people are in line, then the line must extend out the door. This is also the only exit so it can get a little congested here. Once you get past the line, walk right up and order. I highly recommend the Burritos. These bad boys are BIG. Kaitlyn and I usually will order one and split it between us for lunch. I recommend getting your food to-go even if you plan to eat there. Especially if you get a whole burrito for yourself.
Now when asked about sauces, I recommend getting all of them if it is your first time. They offer 3 main sauces all made in house. The hot sauce is as advertised and put me in my place the first time I tried it. I must admit, I tend to stick to the mild sauce. It is equally as flavorful just allows me to taste the rest of my food. The sweet sauce is a favorite of Kaitlyn’s and has its place. Be warned, the sweet and hot sauce can look similar. If you eat there, they may offer you a whole bottle of sauce to take to your table. To-go orders get little cups of sauce but you can ask for multiple of your favorites.
Take a quick look at their menu. I can rage about how much I like the food but this may not be everyone’s favorite place. That being said, because this is off the beaten path, many people overlook the food because of the location. I still have not been able to find their food truck anywhere out in the wild but I imagine they serve a reduced version of this menu.
The Service
This is a small team that makes some big flavors. Everyday they provide top notch food an simple good service. The building is clean but not polished. In all reality, I would rather they continue to keep this great food moving rather than remodel the bathroom. Maybe that is just me. All the same, you will get your buzzer when you order and will have to wait a little while. The décor is nothing to write home about and might best be described as quirky. Enjoy a conversation with your friend while you wait. The wait IS worth it. We usually walk out completely stuffed and sleepy for the rest of the day
Overall
Hands down the best local burrito shop in Pitt county that I have visited to date. If you want great food and lots of it, get over here for a lunch you will not forget. How was your experience at Anita’s? What is your favorite menu item there?
