Red Oak is everything you could want in a Brewery and more. Local fresh beer, a relaxing atmosphere and an unique esthetic. This is the place to meet your friends to catch up and lose track of time.
Lets Go to…Whitsett?
Before we go any farther, you need to know that the whole place is is 21+ exclusively. No kids here. That said, the Red Oak Lager Haus & Biergarten is located in the little known town of Whisett. If you have ever driven on I-40 across NC, you probably saw this out your window and said “that looks cool”. I am here to tell you, it is very cool indeed. The main building is very easy to identify from the highway and the adjacent roads. The down side is traffic can be heard in the outdoor spaces throughout. Check out the map at the bottom of the page for more details.
Welcome to the Gift Shop
The main entrance has a epic arch that bears the logo of the brewery. The rest of the entrance is equally over-the-top. There is a cool little bridge in the parking lot and a massive gate to enter the front garden/courtyard. The walkway to the front door takes a very indirect route but showcases the top notch landscaping. You also start to appreciate some of the really cool architecture that was designed for the brewery.
When you walk in, you are in a gift shop. I understand that this helps sales of non-beer related items but I thought it cheapened the experience…. but only for a moment. Do take note of the beer cooler in this area. On your way out, you can grab a 6 pack of your favorite new brew. Now say hello to the front cashier and take a hard left down the hallway. You will know when you have entered…
The Lager Haus
This bad mamajama is huge. The 2-3 story high ceiling connect the entire space and makes everything seem small. Even the massive tables that could fit my entire extended family seem normal in this space. There are multiple massive pieces of grand artwork in this space. The scale of the art fits the room. Whoever designed this space procured the esthetic and executed it to perfection.
Additionally the main bar is in this area. Grab any beer that fits your taste. They are all great. I personally could drink the Bavarian Amber Lager all day. They have quite the variety on tap to include darks, ambers, pilsners and specialty stuff that they are trying out. The bar is set up for fast service and flows well with the space. I came with some friends on a day that was not very crowed but I could easily see this place packed out. The Lager Haus has an entire wall of beautiful windows looking into the…
Biergarten
This equally massive courtyard is designed to seamlessly extend the Lager Haus. My friends and I spent most of our time out here since the weather was perfect in mid-March. This area features many tables with lots of seating at each, European style bronze statues, a water feature and the same great land scaping we saw earlier. This area is effectively closed off. With the only exits being a small walk way near the food area and going back through the beirhause. If this was not a 21+ exclusive establishment, this would be a good area to keep the kids contained.
The Biergarten also features both a “Wursthaus” and a food truck (depending on the day/time) that rotates. The Wursthaus is where you can order some simple bar foods that fit the central German vibes (sausage, pretzels, etc). The food trucks and the Wursthaus together keeps a good rotation of new food while still providing some consistency.
My firends and I spent what felt like 10 minutes here but was actually over an hour. All parts of this were designed to be a gathering place for friends. We were working on moving some furniture between cities for one of my friends and this was the perfect intermission. I have had friends recommend this place as a central meeting area for people all over the state and I now see why.
The Service
Even though you order your food and drinks at the Wursthaus and bar respectively, the staff here comes around routinely to check on us and pick up empty items. Everyone is busy but they all make an effort to be very attentive. Everything is clean and well maintained which I credit to the staff. Be sure to tip the staff well on your way out.
Overall
Red Oak Haus & Biergarten offers an impressively grand experience to enjoy fresh local brews year round. The décor and the layout of the whole brewery is focused on slowing down life to enjoy the moment. Red Oak is an amazing place to spend time with friends or wind down from the week. If you like beer, I recommend making time to visit Whitsett and relax in the beautiful Biergarten with someone you care about. Thank us later
