Casita Brewery offers great proximity to Whirligig Park with some crowd pleasing brews. Their own outdoor space is set to accommodate large groups, pets, families and lots of fun. If you are in the area, this is a great stop.
Is it in My Casita?
Casita Brewery is located in downtown Wilson across from Whirligig Park. Traffic to the area is light outside of event days for the near by park. We came on a Friday and were able to count everyone we saw in the place on one hand.
The parking is in the rear and more than adequate. On the off chance that you need to find an alternative parking lot, check out Wilson’s Parking Map. Be warned, some parking areas are free while others require you to pay. We parked in the parking area near the near by Imagination Station.
The Brewery
The Brewery is inside a classic converted building. This seems to be the standard practice for many breweries in the area. The exposed beams above make for some great pictures. Aside from the brewing part, the buildings has all kinds of little art projects. There are painted barrel ends around the main seating area. My friend James and I came by here with our kids after a visit to the Imagination Station. Our kids through the art was really neat.
We both tried a few beers before settling on one of the recommendations from the bartender. Everything was really tasty but nothing particularly memorable. I need to go back and try some more so I can make a good recommendation.
Whirli-What?
One of the main attractions for Casita Brewery is that it is directly next to Whirligig park. This park has a collection of creative metal sculptures that react to the wind along with an event stage. The big open green space was a favorite of Madilyn and Judah (James’ son). The park and associated museum are entirely independent from the brewery but the creative and quicky vibe is mutually shared between them.
We will have another article on Whirligig coming out soon where we discuss some of the more in-depth amenities it provides.
Made For Friends and Good Weather
In addition to the massive green space at Whirligig, there is a large open lot adjacent to the brewery with lots of outdoor seating. There was not much shade here but plenty of big tables and miscellaneous activities to keep you entertained. You can easily have a dog out here with you as well. Madilyn and Judah ignored everything in here and calmly tapped some rocks they found against a barrel. Not sure why but they seemed to be happy.
This space also is home the Casita Brewery’s attempt at a world record. According to their website, they are trying to break the record for the most different people to participate in a paint-by-numbers mural. The mural takes up a sizable part of the exterior wall and is a fun way to involve the community in decorating the space. You can also find a pair of disc golf holes and a set of corn hole to play.
Unlike the Red Oak Briergarten, Casita Brewing’s outdoor space was made with kids and families in mind. If they had some more shade in this area I could easily be out here every weekend with James catching up.
Overall
Casita Brewery has a great indoor outdoor brewery experience. The proximity to the quirky Whirligig Park gives is a unique flair that the owners play to. This makes for a great place to hang out with friends, take your dog out or just relax in Wilson. Worth checking out next time you find yourself in the area.
