Seagrove Park is NOT flashy but it does have turtles. This park is not trying to impress anyone but rather set the stage to have meaningful talks with a friend, have a great afternoon with your kids, or maybe reflect on your week. This is what parks strive to be; a simply great place to be.

Off Of Ten-Ten But Not Near The Sea

Seagrove park is just outside of downtown Apex in Wake County. If you are not familiar with the area, it is jam packed with suburban homes. This plucky park reflects these suburban values. We found it easy to get to from US-1 but equally accessible from the adjacent neighborhoods/townhomes in the area. Additionally, Howling Cow Creamery and The NC State Farmer’s Market are not far away.

The park is next to the main road (Ten Ten). Luckily, the road sits higher than the park on a hill and is angled away from the park. The end result is a very safe park with minimal traffic sounds.

Unfortunately since it is a neighborhood park, there are not many parking spaces. Between 10-20 spaces for the whole park. As a result, if you are driving here, then you may have a hard time finding parking. That being said, I have never seen this park more than half full. If you need alternative parking, there is a restaurant across the street that you may consider. Additionally, you could park on the street of one of the adjacent neighborhoods. Street parking seems very common in the area but be careful since it is not an official parking area for the park.

TURTLES!

Seagrove Park was not far from where my parents lived at one point so we came through here a few times. The simple route around the the pond is great for a casual stroll with friends or just wearing out your kids. The loop is only about a half mile so do not come here expecting to train for your next marathon. We always stop at the pier to see if we can find any ducks or turtles. There are quite a few turtles that live in Seagrove Park and can regularly be found swimming around the dock.

We also enjoyed the playground quite a bit. Instead of tire chips or wood chips, they opted for what looked to be a large rubber mat made of recycled tires. This still gave a soft playing surface without having it compile in your shoes as you played. My sister (Meredith) along with her kids (Bryce and Lainy) were with us. We had recently visited the NC Zoo Africa earlier that day and were using this as a way to get the last bits of energy out. We had to negotiate to get the kids to leave.

For Convenience Sake

Additionally, there is also a basic basketball court at the park. I have seen some neighborhood kids playing here on several occasions. No official games are played here so the slice of pavement could be used for all sorts of things. Everything is maintained well and clean. I would not be surprised if they regularly power wash that court too.

Between the playground and the basketball court is a basic shelter and public restroom. The bathrooms are satisfactory and the shelter is quite nice. You can reserve the shelter if you want to. For a low stress/low budget kids birthday, this would be a great spot. Seagrove Park is largely an amenity to all of the connected neighborhoods and developments in the area. Most of what it offers are basic amenities but its proximity to these homes make it invaluable to the residents.

A True Core Memory Park Setting

Seagrove park is quality at a small scale. There was not a single aspect of the park that appeared to be overlooked while still feeling like it had been there for years. It is not going to win any awards but it definitely will make memories.

Overall

Seagrove park offers simple yet wholistic park experiences that are extremally convenient to locals in the area. The high quality of these basic amenities makes the park a gem but will never be over crowded by its own nature. The park is the perfect setting to make core memories for decades to come.
