Duck’s Cottage is an exceptionally cute coffee shop/book store close to all things OBX. In the heart of picturesque Duck NC, this makes a great place to stop during shopping trips or just to grab some caffeine.

Quack On Over Here

Duck’s Cottage is located in the outer banks in the Town of Duck and integrated with the Waterfront Shops area. There are not many coffee shops in this part of the outer banks so it is regularly frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Parking is integrated with the Duck’s Waterfront shops. This area can get filled up easily on a fair weathered day during the summer. Since there is no drive through you may have some difficulty getting in and out with your coffee. Here is a link to near by parking in Duck if you really need that cup of Red Eye.

Quacking Good Reads

The building is a historic landmark of the town and sticks out distinctly against the newly constructed shops and boardwalks. The inviting front porch has a few seats that beg you to come take a look inside. You can read a little about the building’s colorful history on the placard out front too.

When you enter you will see a short labyrinth of book shelves. There was a modest line when we came so we had the opportunity to look at a lot of the books. The titles were tastefully selected and arranged by category and subcategory. There was even a kids section. I admired the floor to ceiling books but there was not much room to just paroose unless you are in line. If you wanted to take your time looking anyone in line would have a hard time squeezing by.

I found their collection of North Carolina and Outer banks specific books to be both topical and interesting. We ended up picking up a kids book for Madilyn while we were here about North Carolina. The cook book section was also really well done. If you even mildly enjoy reading I bet you will find something you like here.

Drink The Quack Up

We decided to come through to grab a cup of coffee while we toured around the Water Front Shops of Duck. The coffee, tea, and drinks were satisfactory. A generally standard line up of caffeination with a few creative twists.

Our chief complaint is with the lack of seating. I would think that a book store/ coffee shop would generally benefit from having people linger here. That would prompt more book sales in my mind but I am just and observer.

We also noticed that the area with the sugar, cream etc were was a little… unpolished. The books and order area are neatly organized and clever. This area seemed like a bit of an afterthought. If this space was shuffled around slightly differently, they could use it for 2-4 tables. Just a thought. Since the main appeal is to attract people headed to Water Front Shops at Duck, seating may not be necessary.

Overall

Duck’s Cottage is an exceptionally cute coffee shop and bookstore nook. Aside from the lack of indoor seating, this is a picture perfect spot to grab coffee on you shopping spree. Unless you are in a rush, I recommend coming in and paroozing the books for you next great read and grabbing your favorite caffeinated drink.
